She was the grandmother that my children never had. She raised her nephew Jeffery, as her "own child". To whom I am very grateful. My children were her children. Not only was she aunt, but grandma. She did a superb job. She was also my spiritual mentor. She did not miss a beat walking with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. She lived for Jesus and she died for Jesus. She was a woman of class and character, a woman of impecable character and integrity. She helped anyone who needed her help. I salute her. Until the end, she loved her family dearly and she loved the Lord. Thanks to Uncle Aaron for his undying love and care for her til the end. I visited her and prayed with her a few days ago. Even in her sedated state she felt the power of God and rejoiced. I will never forget that day. Thank you Jesus for the 74 years of faithful service. Love and prayers.

Born April 13, 1921, in Green Sea, SC, he was the son of the late Cornie Anderson Lupo and the late Mollie Rouse Lupo.Mr. Lupo was a pre-war Clemson Cadet, but left after one year to fulfill his patriotic calling of enlisting in the United States Army during WW II. He was a Sergeant in the 860th Engineering Aviation Battalion in the South Pacific Theatre and Golden Gloves Champion. During his three and a half year tour he operated heavy equipment in the construction of temporary airstrips as our troops advanced.Following his tour in the Army Mr. Lupo owned and operated Lupo Construction, an excavation business that built many irrigation canals, ponds and golf courses in Marion and Horry counties. Mr. Lupo always found time though to indulge his passion of racing. In 1956 he started in the field for the Southern 500, and went on to become Track Champion at RAMBI Raceway in 1964, and three time track champion in 1965.Mr. Lupo was an avid golfer and tennis player, winning many trophies, and a Master Mason with the Loris Blue Lodge #205 AFM. As a member or Green Sea Baptist Church, he was not only a parishioner but served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years: Carolyn Carter Lupo of the home; one daughter: Tommie Lupo Gautsch and husband Bill of Greenville, SC; one son: Trent Lupo of Green Sea, SC; three grandchildren: Noel Posey, Yon Gautsch, and Katherine Gautsch; one great-granddaughter: Caroline Posey; Two brothers: Cornie Lupo of Green Sea, SC, and Ted Lupo of Fork, SC; and three sisters: Lavenia Hucks of Columbia, SC, Beth Squires of Aynor, SC, and Grace Floyd of Florida.Mr. Lupo was predeceased by brothers Eugene and Wyman Lupo, and a sister Lucille Hunsucker.Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2009, at Green Sea Baptist Church with committal services following in Green Sea Cemetery. Steve and I were returning home from a quick getaway to Williamsburg, Virginia. It had been an anniversary gift from the children, and we were finally making our way home. Despite Steve’s looming health problems, we had managed to have a peaceful and pain-free interlude together, and I was feeling grateful for a few precious moments with my husband. But now, everything had suddenly changed. Life is funny that way. I looked over at Steve, who was hastily steering the car into a nearby rest stop so that we could concentrate on my daughter, Lauren’s, ominous words. “What’s wrong with him?” I cried. Through teary explanations Lauren began to describe a strange constellation of symptoms. There were upper respiratory indicators, but there was also a headache that could not be controlled; worse still—was a progressive numbness that was slowly making its way down Eli’s arm and into his legs. Nothing made sense, and I found myself frustrated with this strange and worrisome illness. To make matters worse the doctors were baffled, and offered only tepid opinions … none of which fit the list of symptoms that Eli was experiencing. In desperation our daughter finally insisted that Eli be evaluated at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. By the time she got him to the emergency room, he could no longer stand.
