The event will begin at 10 a.m. June 2 in Conference Room 1 at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, 8330 Lakewood Ranch Blvd. Dr. Chippy Nalluri of Bradenton Cardiology will talk about risk factors, warning signs, treatment options and lifestyle changes to prevent and manage heart disease. The Parrish Youth Ballet will present its spring program Sunday in Bradenton and Sarasota. The program will include classical pieces featuring choreography by Diane Partington and Rey Dizon, Dizon's "Circus Ballet" and excerpts from "Don Quixote." News Sports Ticket Lifestyle Opinion Advertise Obituaries eNewspaper Legals Pioneer Days celebrates the past Crowley Museum & Nature Center is planning its annual celebration of the rural southwest Florida pioneers. Pioneer Days will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the center, 16405 Myakka Road, Sarasota. Hands-on activities for adults and children will include candle dipping, gourd crafting, paper marbling, pioneer games, nature crafts, pioneer toy making and birding with the Sarasota Audubon Society. Pioneer craft demonstrations scheduled are blacksmithing, sugar cane grinding, basket weaving, sheep shearing, spinning, butter churning, wood carving and quilting. There will be storytelling, live folk music, dulcimer music, hayrides and lectures by Ann Shank and Ray Albritton. Food, organic herbs and crafts will be sold. The 190-acre nature and pioneer history center includes nature trails, a 2,000-foot boardwalk through the swamp and marsh, an observation tower overlooking the Myakka River, and pioneer history buildings and artifacts from the late 1800s. ArtCenter Manatee recently received a nod of support from the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund. A $3,484 grant will help the center continue to provide adult art classes at Manatee Community College's Lakewood Ranch campus.
