Oct 26, 2021 ... A good servant listens. You will serve people better when you make a deep commitment to listen intently to them and understand what they are ... by Marie Brodeur | Oct 26, 2021 For whosoever calls on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved. Romans 10:13 That is a good solid verse to build our faith on. It is given to us by grace alone. We don’t have to earn it and we certainly don’t deserve it. This is not an excuse to do nothing. With this great gift comes responsibility. Not to earn our salvation, but work because God has given us works to do already. We work so that God will be glorified. In 2 Peter 1:1, Simon Peter identifies himself as a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ.   I was reading my devotions this week and read this verse. What struck me was the thought that I am a servant of Jesus. (Ok, ok, some of us are slower than others and it takes a while to sink in). But If I were rated on how I work, would I be fired as a servant? Not that the Lord would fire me, but comparatively speaking, if I worked as a servant for someone else like I do the Lord, would I be put out on the street? Am I a good servant? Do I do my duties as a good servant? I have to admit, I am not a good servant at times. I get so busy doing life that I sometimes forget I am a servant. As a servant it is expected that I do the work of a servant. What does the Lord require of us? He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8  What makes a good servant? I see some people to whom being a servant comes so easy and naturally. Me, not so much. I see others knowing just what to do and say and I stand there like a stick. Awkward like a new servant in training.

May 3, 2019 ... 1 Timothy 4:6 – 10 | A Good Servant · #1: A Good Servant Serves Up A Good Plate Of Spiritual Food… · #2: A Good Servant Is Trained To Practice ... 1 Timothy 4:6 – 10 | A Good Servant Everyone wants to hear the words “Well done my good and faithful servant”. No one looks forward to a day when someone will say to him or to her “You have done your job poorly and you are an irresponsible servant. Depart from me for I do not know you.” Deep down inside, every one of us has a deep desire to serve well. We want to excel at things. We want to be successful. We want to be good at something. We want to be good servants. We want to be good spouses, good parents, good employees, good family members, good students, good friends, good Christians, good human beings, etc., etc. We want to be good. But the problem is that we also want to be bad. It’s hard to admit, but the reality is that every one of us possesses competing desires deep down inside. We want to be good and we also want to be bad. Take for instance my desire to be physically healthier. I want to be a little bit slimmer. I want to live longer. I want to be a little more toned and in shape. I want to wrestle with my kids without feeling dead afterwards. I want to exercise more and I want to eat healthier food. I look forward to the day when my desire to be physically healthier is achieved. You could say that I hope in a promise of a future healthier me and that hope motivates me to do the hard things now. But there’s a problem. There’s always a problem because I am not in Heaven yet. The problem is that while I want to be good at becoming physically healthier, I also want to be bad. I like to veg out on my couch too much. I like to eat way too much pizza on my couch and exercising is painful and time consuming. So no matter how bad I want to be good, I still want to be bad.

Jun 22, 2023 ... St. Thomas More remained fiercely loyal to his King, but even more so to the preservation of his king's immortal soul. St. Thomas More Was the King’s Good Servant, And God’s First St. Thomas More remained fiercely loyal to his King, but even more so to the preservation of his king’s immortal soul. Hans Holbein the Younger, “Portrait of Thomas More,” 1527 (photo: Public Domain) Kelly Marcum Blogs June 22, 2023 “I die the King’s good servant, and God’s first.” These are the famous words of St. Thomas More, spoken to the crowds moments before his public beheading on July 6, 1535, just two weeks after the execution of St. John Fisher with whom he shares his feast day. Both men chose death rather than betray their faith by acknowledging King Henry VIII as the head of the Church of England.  I knew the story of St. Thomas More, and his commitment to his Catholic faith even in the face of a brutal death (the usual fate for convicted traitors was to be drawn and quartered. King Henry commuted the sentence to beheading for St. Thomas after the verdict was read). But as I recently reread about his final days, including his trial on July 1, 1535, one detail that had previously escaped my notice jumped out. St. Thomas More’s jurors included the father of Anne Boleyn and her brother, George Boleyn. Both men at the time were high-ranking officials in the King’s court. Less than one year later, in May 1536, George Boleyn would also face trumped-up charges of treason and would ultimately meet the executioner’s blade. George’s death was not one of principle as in the cases of Sts. Thomas More and John Fisher. He was merely a political pawn and his death was collateral damage in King Henry’s relentless pursuit of a son and desire for another new wife.
