Eddie Katz and Arnold Soodalter, brothers-in-law, decided to start a USDA federally inspected wholesale meat business. They opened Arnold’s & Eddie’s Foods, Inc. dba Arnold’s Meats in West Springfield, Massachusetts at the sight of the original Friendly’s Ice Cream plant. The business began with approximately twenty employees and four delivery trucks pedaling door to door to area restaurants in a twenty mile radius. From the onset, Eddie’s son Larry joined the company and they embraced a philosophy of high quality, terrific service and low prices. Word quickly spread among the area restaurants and the business grew. Soon thereafter, Arnold’s received calls from colleges, hospitals, prep schools and small markets to provide them with the same excellent products and service the restaurants received. As a result of enormous interest from retail customers wishing to make purchases for their homes, The Katz Family opened a cash and carry store in 1975. The store at the West Springfield facility was a 20’ by 15’ room with one fresh meat case, one frozen food case, a dry goods rack and a table. Each individual order was handwritten on an order pad and calculated by hand. A cigar box was used as a makeshift cash register.

... wholesale meat company for the San Joaquin Valley. ... The steady growth of Pappy's Fine Foods has not changed everything, however, as Pappy's is still owned and ... In 1960, Alex “Pappy” Papulias started Pappy Meat Company in Fresno, California as a wholesale meat company for the San Joaquin Valley. In 1981 Pappy passed away, leaving his wife Marie, four sons and a daughter to run the increasingly competitive meat business. Pappy and Marie’s youngest son, Edward, while attending college, decided the company should change direction focusing on specialty seasonings and sauces. With little capital to start off, Edward began manufacturing its first product as Pappy’s Choice Seasoning in 1985 and distributing to a few supermarkets under the new name Pappy’s Fine Foods, Inc. Since then, the company has flourished, now with over 25 different products being manufactured in a new state-of-the-art packaging plant. The steady growth of Pappy’s Fine Foods has not changed everything, however, as Pappy’s is still owned and operated by Edward Papulias. He is the CEO of Pappy's Fine Foods and works with grocery store chains as well as distributors and food service to bring his seasoning products to all markets. Edward has developed all of the seasoning and sauce blends and has applied his knowledge of food and spices to help other companies launch seasoning lines and products including Harris Ranch Beef Company. Pappy's Fine Foods is known for having delicious, made to order seasoning and sauce products that through Edward's expertise are developed without many of the additives and preservatives that are a mainstay of so many products on grocery store shelves.
