The City has implemented a tree voucher program for homeowners that are interested in planting a tree in the public right of way adjacent to their home. The program adds to the canopy year after year and brings with it all the benefits trees provide. The City of Cañon City maintains more than 6,000 trees within City limits, including trees in City parks and in public rights of way. Permits are required before any contractor may be hired to perform pruning or removal of any City-owned tree. Homeowners are asked to refrain from pruning City-owned trees on their own without first speaking to and receiving permission from the City of Cañon City Forestry Department.
