Miss something? Check out all of our Crosley Field stories here. Mark Rohr felt like a private investigator following leads for Crosley Field memorabilia in the 1980s. Fresh out of Xavier University where he received a Masters of Public Administration in 1985, Rohr was an intern for the city of Blue Ash and worked for Assistant City Manager Jim Pfeffer. By 1983 or '84, Blue Ash had started a major project to revitalize the Kenwood Road and Cooper Road areas and that included plans to replace Malsbury Park and its ball fields with an entirely new and much bigger sports complex, according to Pfeffer. City Manager Marvin Thompson was eager to make a splash with the newly acquired land on Grooms Road that City Council had approved and he instructed engineers to design a premier sports complex that re-created the then decade-gone Crosley Field. Thompson sent Rohr on a personal quest to hunt down the history of the ballpark and to locate everything he could that remained from Crosley Field after it was razed in 1972. For Rohr, a Zanesville native who grew up in Evendale, this was a personal challenge. "Mark was a wild man, to be sure," Pfeffer said. "Really energetic and most eager to get involved in the new sports project."
