Jul 15, 2016 ... "The good news is that current expectations suggest just that – a sharp earnings rebound is in store for 2H16 and beyond," Belski said. US MARKETS LOADING... In the news A top Wall Street strategist explains why he's not more bullish even with stocks at all-time highs The S&P 500 this week jumped to new highs, leaping above the median Wall Street year-end target of 2,152. Naturally, there were expectations that strategists would begin to raise their targets. But in a note on Friday, BMO chief investment strategist Brian Belski said he's sticking to his target of 2,100, outlining two reasons why now is not the time to become more bullish. "From our perspective, they are ones that investors are not necessarily prepared for: at least one more Fed rate hike and a transition to an EPS from a P/E-driven market environment," Belski wrote. The Fed's intentions appear split in two. Markets believe the Fed will not raise interest rates this year, although it has said it intends to at least once, and economic data support this. After Britain voted to leave the European Union in June, bets that the Fed will not raise rates increased. That's a big part of why stocks recovered so quickly after the sell-off, Belski said. But investors are being "somewhat irrational" because the Fed's messaging on one or two possible rate hikes this year has been consistent. If the Fed raises rates, stocks could sell-off and then recover sharply like they did in December after the initial rate hike, Belski said. Pantheon Macroeconomics' Ian Shepherdson shared a view along these lines on Twitter, writing that Fed officials are likely to become more vocal about raising interest rates.

Facebook Twitter Instagram Email 2022 Clark County Readers Choice MOSS: Taking the temperature on sign accuracy Belski: RE/MAX in New Albany a winner in informal study WLKY meteorologist John Belski, New Albany, is pictured next to the temperature display at the RE/MAX FIRST office along Charlestown Road in New Albany on Tuesday morning. Of all the temperature displays at various businesses along Charlestown Road, Belski feels that the RE/MAX FIRST display is the most accurate. STAFF PHOTO BY CHRISTOPHER FRYER There it was, on Charlestown Road near its interchange with Interstate 265. A sign at Prosser Vocational School told me it was 23 degrees. One across the street, at RE/MAX real estate, put it at 25. A sign a bit away, at Your Community Bank, declared 26 while Republic Bank’s registered 28. Which one, if any, was correct? Who would know? Better still, who would care? The world’s greatest TV meteorologist lived nearby and, better still, had offered lunch. After soup and sandwiches, Woodward and Bernstein — actually, John Belski and I — set out to get to the bottom of which local roadside thermometer is tops. Like myself, Belski is mostly retired. We are old enough to remember such thermometers coming and going. Technology is behind their resurgence, like it is behind most everything. Not that we need much help any more to know just how cold or hot we are. The temperature is on our cell phones, our dashboards and computer screens. It is easier to find the temperature on TV than it is “How I Met My Mother” reruns. That’s saying something.
