Choosing the right athletic shoe can make all the difference in your performance and comfort during physical activity. With so many options on the market, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to help you find the perfect pair of athletic shoes for your needs.
Before you start shopping for athletic shoes, it’s important to understand your foot type. There are three basic foot types:
Different types of athletic shoes are designed to support different types of feet. Knowing your foot type will help you narrow down your options and find shoes that provide the right level of support.
Athletic shoes come in several categories, each designed for specific activities:
Running shoes are designed with extra cushioning and support to absorb shock and reduce impact on joints while running. They come in different styles based on whether you run on pavement or trails, as well as your foot type.
Cross-training shoes are versatile enough for a variety of activities, including weightlifting, aerobics, and sports that involve quick lateral movements. They provide a balance of cushioning and stability.
Basketball shoes are designed with extra ankle support and traction for quick stops and starts on the court. They also have extra cushioning to absorb shock from jumping.
Tennis shoes are designed with extra lateral support for quick side-to-side movements on the court. They also have durable soles that won’t leave marks on indoor courts.
A: It’s recommended that you replace your athletic shoes every 300-500 miles if you’re a runner or every six months if you exercise regularly.
A: Running shoes are designed specifically for running and may not provide enough lateral support for other activities like tennis or basketball. However, cross-training shoes are versatile enough to be used for multiple activities.
A: Yes, people with flat feet may require more support than those with neutral arches. Look for motion control or stability shoes that offer added support.
No matter what type of physical activity you enjoy, finding the right pair of athletic shoes is essential to performing at your best while avoiding injury. By understanding your foot type and choosing a shoe category based on your activity, you can find the perfect pair that will keep you comfortable and supported through any workout!

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Press Releases, Events & Presentations Runners are united by the common goal of chasing their best – whether it’s a new 5K PR, qualifying for a major marathon, or even running their local everyday route faster than they did yesterday. With a constant desire to improve, runners are maniacal about their run data, comparing splits, monitoring distance and time, and finding ways to recover faster. Under Armour’s suite of high performance UA HOVR™ running shoes were created not only for the runner looking to get better, they actually help runners get better. The shoes are connected and track a wide array of data from running basics like distance, pace and splits, to detailed running form data including cadence and stride length. Using this data, MapMyRun™ provides a personalized coaching experience to each athlete, helping each runner find their ideal running form. The process of connecting the shoes to MapMyRun was made as simple as possible. Open the most recent version of the MapMyRun app in close proximity to connected UA HOVR shoes. The app will detect the pod in the right shoe. The app will prompt a confirmation, after which the shoes are paired, and ready for their first digitally connected run. The connected shoes measure running fundamentals including distance, pace, and splits, in addition to more advanced data such as cadence, stride length and gait analysis. New in 2019 is the Gait Coaching feature, which provides an in-depth analysis of a runner’s stride so they can run with the least amount of effort and better manage their risk of injury. Gait Coaching starts with a summary, showing the runner how their current form compares to their ideal form. Paired with coaching tips, the runner receives specific guidance so they can make adjustments and achieve their ideal form.

Choose a star rating on a scale of 1 to 5 Start your review of Southern Shoe Connection Tried to return a pair of shoes here today and they refused to take them back because they said they had looked like they had been worn. I only had the shoes on long enough to try them on and find out they didnt fit and they refused to return them for me. I use to work at a clothing store and if they looked bad I wouldnt have even tried to bring them back to them but there was nothing wrong with them. My wife used to go here to buy SAS Shoes which are the most comfortable shoes on the planet (I wear them too, only them, and they are the only shoes that are so soft they require no breaking in at all). But the owner has told her (despite *his own employees* who told her that they were the best sellers in the store) that he is discontinuing all his SAS Shoes. This is a guy who obvious doesn't care about his customers. (He did say "Well, we can order anything you want." Duh, how do you know what you want if you can't try them in your store???) So we went last week down to Johnny's Shoe Store in Kingsport, where they not only have a nice selection of men's and women's SAS Shoes ON DISPLAY, but they also have really knowledgeable salespeople who can help steer you towards a good selection.
